IPv6 dual stack is a technique used to transition from the IPv4 protocol to IPv6 by allowing hosts and routers to run both protocols simultaneously. This method ensures compatibility between IPv4 and IPv6 networks, allowing for a gradual migration to the new protocol.
In an IPv6 dual stack environment, devices are assigned both an IPv4 address and an IPv6 address. The operating system of the device is configured to use both protocols, and when communicating with another device, it will determine which protocol to use based on the available connectivity options.
For example, if two devices that support both IPv4 and IPv6 protocols are communicating with each other, they will use IPv6 if both have connectivity over IPv6. If one or both devices do not have IPv6 connectivity, they will use IPv4.
IPv6 dual stack implementation allows for a smooth transition from the IPv4 protocol to IPv6, while maintaining compatibility with existing IPv4 networks.
